Thornton grabs the first hatrick bonus while the 3rds and 4ths struggle to continue their excellent recent form
And Pado keeps the UEA Fantasy League Championship dream alive
UEA 2's eventually saw off a hard working Canary who had ten men for the last 70 minutes of the game. A first half effort from Liam Martin was followed up by Tom Thornton, and this started the 6-0 thumping which didn't actually commence until the 70th minute. A mix up at the back allowed Gaskell to anticipate a cock up at the back leaving him with an easy header over the keeper into the net! Thornton then got his second, a beautifully drilled cross from Duncan White fell to Thornton who scored his first headed goal of the season. A good move down the left then allowed Duncan White to smash across goal into the bottom corner which was closely followed up by Thorntons hatrick. A powerful strike couldn't be held onto by the keeper and it rolled into the net, his 10th of the season, very impressive for a right midfilelder. The 6th and final goal of the game came in the 90th minute and was probably the best move of the game. Dave Yeomans went on a good run down the middle and played and exquisite pass with the outside of his foot out to Thornton who then delivered the perfect pass for none other than Marcus Jones to control the ball and slot it into an empty net. Despite Thorntons efforts and second hatrick of the season he was again denied the M o M award as Marcus Jones was voted star man for his persistence and great character (for once).
An unfortunate game for the thirds saw them lose 3-1 away to Marlborough Old Boys, a decent side who unfortunately proved too much for Gavin Butlers boys. Jeremy Pitlabos' return saw him get on the score sheet but unfortunately that was the only high point for the thirds. Hopefully they can bounce back next week to victory.
The 4ths got unlucky again, a 3-2 loss away to Hoverton seems very harsh, two goals from set pieces which will be worked on at training to try to prevent this. The two goals were assisted by Dan Towse and Andy Blackmore which were converted by Dave Foulis and Robin Caley the Snoop Doggy Dogg. Dave Foulis continues his good form, his 6th of the season and Snoop claimed his first goal for UEA. Well done Snoop.
Just the top five in the league to look at today cos im tired and want to go to bed. Well done again to PADO who is still top, and unfortunately for Chris Macdonald (Macca) he won the wooden spoon with a lousy 305 points.
