A UEA FC Hattrick

A great weekend 5 days before the first team compete in Derby day saw 3 good wins by the 2nds, 3rds and 4ths.

12 out of 12 for the 2's, by Nick Gaskell

The 2nds continued their dominant form with their twelth win in the league out of of twelve. 2nd from bottom Taverham have games in hand and a few wins could put them 3rd in a bizarre looking league table but they proved no problem for the twos. The 2nds great winning streak has mainly come down to the players' consistency, and once again this was too much to handle for another bunch of Norwich Pikeys. Still with their captain, the very much overweight Flipper as they call him, and their moaning old cunt of a keeper, Taverham looked a different side to previous years with some young raw talent. They were still no match for UEA though as they went 2-o up within 25 minutes. Both came from Chris Gunn crosses, one a corner from the right the other a cross from the left, both converted by the head of Nick Gaskell. The fat bastard that is Flipper then managed to pull one back, Simon Grove-White or Jimmy Havers, I cant remember which one didn't even touch the guy but he went down on the edge of the box and Flipper put the freekick away passed first half keeper Matt Beasley in a Premiership fashion.
Persistence and class from the 2's then brought the third goal, a mix up between Taverhams' veterans Flipper and the Keeper allowed Chris Gunn to pounce in and nick the ball off the keeper and place into an empty net. This prevailed with small digs at Gunny, the most favourable was 'look what happens when you make a bit of an effort Gunny'.
In the history of games against Taverham there has always been a token goal where they like to moan for about four hours, and funnily enough this was on the stroke of half time. Beasley had the ball and the ref stated there was 20 seconds left, in this 20 seconds Gaskell received the ball and threaded it towards Thornton who dummied it only for it to fall into the path of the defender, who unfortunately for him also dummied it and Jonny Richardson tucked the ball away. As you can imagine the taunts at the referee began, that was never 20 seconds ref, etc etc.
The second half saw the goalkeeping swap as Beasley came out and the sandy fox Simon Grove-White went between the sticks. Taverham had some early chances, big fat flipper hit the bar with a header and their substitute striker sliced a volley wide, UEA found their feet again though and shortly after some dodgie linesman decisions Gunny went down the left wing and squared the ball to Thornton who placed into an empty net. Liam Martin took a breather to see rising star Joe Barker get a good 25 minutes and UEA got their sixth, Jason Lincoln battled for the ball which fell to Gaskell who crossed in low from the right only for Sammy G to put a neat powerful finish passed the keeper.
UEA managed to score again but it was ruled out for offside, and Gunny managed to almost get beaten up when the Taverham 6ft 4in centre back got the ball for him and Gunny through it back on the field without waiting for him, good sportsmanship Gunny.
After persistent complaining that he had never had one Chris Gunn picked up the MOM award, even though the banta of the sympathy vote was flowing it was well deserved for his impressive display down the left.

UEA 3’s VS Jarrolds

After some poor directions from Adam “I’m Northern” Aisthorpe and being covered in mud by Jez’ stuck in the mud car the thirds finally kicked off against second placed Jarrolds. After a few early opportunities for Bellamy, Morris and Tucker, Chris Morris found the net for his eighth goal in only three games with a spectacular twenty yard effort. Some average decisions from the stand in referee and his linesman meant UEA missed out on four or five opportunities to go further into the lead, Jarrolds capitalised on this and took the lead after two very average goals before the end of the half.

UEA came out with a bit more energy in the second half and quickly saw an absolute trailblazer from Alex Smith narrowly go over the bar. Another couple of saves from Jarrolds unstable goalkeeper saw UEA becoming increasingly frustrated with the afternoons events, however with fifteen minutes on the clock Alex Smith received a lay off after some good work from Andy Blackmore which he dispatched with purity to the bottom right of the goal. At 2-2 and with UEA playing better football Jarrolds began to realise their fate and a comical James Gould throw in that was heading straight into the goal was kicked into their own net by a Jarrolds defender giving the thirds a 3-2 lead. The introduction of Dave Burnham opened up space in the Jarrolds midfield which saw Adam “I like to mine” Aisthorpe dribble forward and hit a 25 yard strike over the keeper and into the back of the net. It was a case of job done for a third team that can perform a lot better but still managed to get the job done. Plaudits to James Goulds for an MOM performance and Dave Burnham whose introduction helped change the game.

The fourths continue their impressive 2007 record with a win at home to Sissonke. Ceroni gave some of his more experienced players such as Foulis and Snoop a rest to allow some fresh blood to get a good run out, Final score a funny looking 7-4 to UEA.

Snoop picked up the Man of the Match award for his superlative 30 minute display scoring one and setting up one. Other substitue Foulis also got on the score sheet, Piper put two penalties away both won by Paolo and Scott Holiday scored 2 aswell. Ceroni also scored and other assists came from Chris Scott, Darryl Wyatt and Tom Denney.

I'll probably update the league next Sunday which might possibly be the last update before the end of year dinner, depending on how many games are left to play.

Good luck to the firsts for Wednesday, lets kick some Essex bitch boys asses.

Peace out

2nds and 3rds continue dominant form as 4ths are again mugged off by the weather

Uea 2nd 11 continued their 100% record in the Business Houses League this weekend to stay top of Division One in a commanding position.

UEA scored early on through a Nick Gaskell header and shortly after Norwich Union equalised with a dubious goal which Marcus Jones was adamant did not cross the line, the ref thought it did and the goal stood. This didn't affect UEA however and they managed to make it 2-1 before the break through Liam Martin due to some smart link up play on the right by Jonesy and Tom Thornton. In the second half the goals piled in, Chris Gunn hit 2, one of them a sweet chip over the keeper, Jonny Richardson scored his 12th of the campaign and substitute Scott Holiday got 2 in 25 minutes, one of which he definitely needs to thank the keeper for. Norwich Union did get a second from another corner but some smart saves from stand in keeper Tom Eede kept Norwich Union at bay.

Final score UEA 7 - 2 Norwich Union

The thirds(i believe played in the league cup) who were without captain Gavin Butler who was in Newcastle (undoubtedly getting shitfaced and getting his willy out) got the job done in commanding fashion with a 5 - 0 home victory over Thorpe Village ( I think).

A hattrick from Chris Morris, thats 7 goals in 2 games and goals from Paolo Ceroni and James Gould, sealed the deal. It looks as though the thirds are going to have to rely on the Primary Cup and League cup for silverware this season because looking at the league table it looks out of reach.

Polemetis saves the day

By Marcus Jones

The 2nds had smashed St Johns 7-2 (or something similarly emphatic) in the League Cup little over a month ago and that was with a team full of friends, relations and no-hopers, so I for one turned up expecting a distinctly easy fixture and was focussed more intently upon scoring the first goal, which would be the teams 100th of the season in all competitions. However, since then they’ve either been on some sort of recruitment drive, or they’ve been taking that potion from the Nutty Professor, as they were all younger, leaner and were now able to string three passes together.

They were by far the better team in the opening exchanges and UEA didn’t start playing anything resembling football until about 10 minutes in. When they did a goal was forthcoming, with Gaskell’s shot only parried and Thornton tucking away the coveted century goal (for his troubles he got a rank can of Fosters which had been festering in Gunny’s bag since around November). Incidentally, Gunny was busy sulking on the bench as the Sandy Fox was playing left forward as part of Gaskell’s latest fad formation, 4-3-3.

The defence were incompetent for the rest of the half and Alex ‘the Greek’ Polemetis had to make 3 sharp saves to keep UEA ahead at the interval.

There was greater cohesion to UEA’s play in the second half and from Grove’s cross Gaskell smashed the ball the in with the ferocity of a jet engine.

St Johns then contrived to hit the bar after a melee in the box, before I decided to busy myself going forward. However, Jonny decided to gift them possession living us rather up the creek. However, you know what rhymes with creek……that’s right, Greek and he again made an outrageous save to preserve the clean sheet.

Meanwhile, the incredible sulk came on and he gave the proverbial finger to Gaskell’s selection policy by tucking away the third with his right foot, before Gaskell spanked home the fourth.

They weren’t bad, but we were better. 100 goals, 100% record still intact. Job done.

The thirds fail to win as league victory slips further away

Written By Dan Humphry

The 3-3 draw with Costessey at the turn of the year, meant the thirds went into this must win league game knowing they were up against a physical team that could play a little bit of football on there under 12s sized football pitch. The thirds started brightly and it wasn’t long before Chris Morris pounced on a peach of a through ball from a Costessey defender to put the thirds 1 up. The thirds then began to get a hold of the game with Gavin Butler hitting the post from a header and Andy Blackmore forcing a great save out of the surprisingly agile for a big fella Costessey goalkeeper. Not long before the half time whistle sounded the ref awarded Costessey a soft peno for a handball. 1-1. The second half became a stop start game as the ref failed to control the game and after both sides missed guilt edge chances, it was Costessey that took the lead with a soft goal that flirted with the goal before deciding to trickle over the line. The last ten minutes saw the thirds take control of the game again, a dynamic run into the box from Dan Robinson resulted a pen for the thirds, which Chris Morris put in off the post to grab his second and the equaliser. A couple of minutes later mozzie was in again and got his third, only for it to be ruled out for offside by their cheating lino, who later came up to mozzie to tell him he was actually on. A strong midfield display earned Alex Smith MOM

Paolo has taken the lead in the race for the UEA FC fantasy league championship while Sammy G the former leader drops 3 places.

Home BUSA ends

UEA 1 - 2 Loughborough

UEA's first team almost kept Loughborough 2's at bay but even a 25 yard strike from Matt Jepson couldn't stop them from taking all 3 points.

A dubious goal and a penalty secured it for the visitors, Tom Denney picked up the Man of the Match award.

UEA 2's 1 - 1 Coventry 2's

The twos needed a win to try to steal the league from Coventry and things looked great when they scored in the first minute from a Tom Thornton header. Unfortunately 22 goals this season Dave Yeomans sprained his ankle in the fifth minute and UEA didnt command the game again for the rest of the 90 minutes. Coventry equalised with 20 minutes to go from a corner, a shame as UEA had defended so well, this was proved by Jimmy Havers picking up the man of the match award. There is a glimmer of hope for UEA as they have a moderately easier game than Coventry next week, who must beat Leicester De Montford to definitely win the league.
